Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Fredrick Wambua (“I”, “me”, or “this site”) collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you visit fredrickwambua.com. I take your privacy seriously and only collect what is needed to run this site and respond to you.
Who is responsible for your data
The data controller for this site is Fredrick Wambua. If you have any questions about this policy or your personal data, you can contact me at fredrickswambua254@gmail.com.
What I collect and why
I keep data collection to a minimum. Specifically:
Newsletter subscriptions
If you subscribe to my newsletter, I collect your email address so I can send you essays and updates. This is handled by Buttondown, my email provider. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email. I rely on your consent as the legal basis for this.
Contact form
If you use the contact form, I collect your name, email address, and any information you choose to include in your message, so that I can respond. Messages are delivered to me by email through Resend, my email-delivery provider. I keep this correspondence so I can follow up with you.
Analytics
I use Google Analytics to understand, in aggregate, how visitors use the site (for example, which essays are read most). This may involve cookies and the collection of information such as your approximate location, device, and pages visited. Where required, analytics only runs after you give consent through the cookie banner. You can read more in Google’s privacy policy.
Cookies
A cookie is a small file stored on your device. This site uses essential cookies needed for it to function, and — only with your consent — analytics cookies that help me understand site usage. You can accept or decline non-essential cookies via the banner shown on your first visit, and change your choice at any time by clearing your browser data.
Who I share data with
I do not sell your personal data. I share it only with the service providers that help me run this site, namely: Buttondown (newsletter), Resend (contact-form email delivery), Google Analytics (usage analytics), and Vercel (hosting). Each processes data on my behalf and under their own privacy terms.
How long I keep it
I keep newsletter data until you unsubscribe, and contact-form correspondence for as long as is reasonably needed to handle your enquiry and any follow-up. Analytics data is retained according to Google’s standard retention settings.
Your rights
Depending on where you live — including under the EU/UK GDPR and Kenya’s Data Protection Act, 2019 — you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict its processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these rights, email me at fredrickswambua254@gmail.com and I will respond within a reasonable time.
International transfers
The service providers above may process your data outside your country, including in the United States and the European Union. Where this happens, those providers maintain their own safeguards for such transfers.
Changes to this policy
I may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent version. Significant changes will be noted on this page.
This policy is provided in good faith as a clear summary of how this site handles data. It is not legal advice. If you require a policy certified for a specific jurisdiction or commercial context, please consult a qualified professional.
